The biggest drawback of amazing science fiction such as Star Trek is the fact that the majority of the technology shown in the series will most likely never exist in the real world. For a long time, it did not matter whether it was actually physically possible to build the Giant Laser of Death on Krypton XXVII. After all, the old rule still applies: It's space magic, I don't have to explain s*$t!

That's one of the reasons why the Star Trek PADD Notebook is "just" a lined notebook with a book ribbon and Star Trek-themed pages. Can you imagine what it would be like to have an actual Personal Access Display Device? A tablet-shaped portable computer that's able to display all kinds of information and connect to other systems without the need for any cables or wires? That truly sounds like science fiction! Besides, as we all know, a real paper notebook is also a lot less vulnerable to EMP blasts!
